DSR Asset Management has reported a “significant” increase in enquiries for their developments on the Philippine island of Boracay after it was announced that the island is to get a new international airport.
Boracay, which was voted the Best Leisure Destination at the world Travel Fair in 2007, is the third most popular destination in the Philippines with over 380,000 visitors in the first half of 2009 – an increase of six per cent compared with the equivalent period 2008.
The new airport will be built on the adjacent island of Carabao, just a 15 minute boat ride away and is expected to be fully operational by 2012. The airport, to be known as Carabao International Airport (CIA), will provide modern facilities for both national and international carriers.
David Redfern of DSR Asset Management said:” The new airport will be able to accommodate medium range airbus type aircraft direct from destinations such as Seoul, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur. The new airport will enable the growth in tourism from China and other Asian countries to continue. We are confident that Boracay will remain a top tourist destination in the Philippines”. China Airways launched services to neighbouring Kalibo earlier this year and Mandarin Airways will launch new routes in October 2009.
David Redfern concluded that:”Investing in the Philippines has always been a sound investment, this news has made it even more attractive” DSR has just added two more investments to their offering in the Philippines, Continent Fairways on Boracay and Blue Coral resort and Spa Mactan Island.
