The capital of the region is Bari, but there are many other wonderful historic towns and villages to visit. One of which is Lecce, known as The Florence of the South, or another is Ostuni, known as the White Town, brilliant white in the daytime sun situated on the hillside, but softly lit by amber lights after the sun goes down. Gallipoli with its narrow medieval streets and fabulous early morning fish market is well worth a visit. Bari, Puglias capital with its historic centre is a must and a walk along the lovely sea front promenade seeing the fishermen at work is a delight.
