Location

Schoeneberg is a very popular and good location in the centre of West Berlin. Schoeneberg was always a lively district of Berlin. It was no main center but the district townhall was the main townhall for West Berlin during the Cold War. The freedom bell (a gift from the American people) and several memorials from that time can be found here. On Oct. 9, 1989 the Chancellor Helmut Kohl and former Chancellor Willy Brandt cheered from the main balcony at the end of the Berlin Wall. It is an emotional place for most people in Berlin (especially West Berlin). Today it is a middle class living area.

The most famous parts of Schoeneberg are the Winterfeldtplatz known for its weekend market where everybody meets for shopping, dining on exotic foods, drinking coffee and catching up on the latest gossip. Viktoria Luise Platz is another well known part with its beautiful old buildings and plenty of bars and restaurants for night life.
