Caribbean Country Guide
The 7000 islands that form the Caribbean have a total surface area of 269,000 km2 and are populated by around 900,000,000 people. The Caribbean uses the Barbadian, Bermudan, East Caribbean and US Dollar as currency. The Caribbean is in the GMT - 4 or - 5 time zone and uses various international dialing codes from island to island.
Why Choose Caribbean?
Caribbean Climate
Although winter months can bring tropical storms, The Caribbean is widely renowned for its unrivalled sunlit scenery amidst its enviable and dreamy environment.
Access the Caribbean
Direct flights to the larger Caribbean islands are commonly available from £600 depending on the time of year, although less expensive, non flexible tickets can be found, albeit seldom. The smaller islands aren't generally serviced directly although temporarily detoured flights are available.
Relocation
Annual homeowner permits allow foreigners to stay on a Caribbean island but doesn't permit their employment. Although full time work is almost non existent, only foreigners earning US$500,000 can apply for permanent residence. 30/60 day and 5 year permits are available under specific conditions, the former being a work permit strictly for the Turks and Caicos Islands and the latter pertains to the specific employment of a born native that no other Island resident is qualified to perform. They're certainly a strict, stringent yet standard set of regulations.
Invest in Caribbean Property
In sharp contrast to their residency laws, foreign property ownership is not only simple and increasingly affordable (legal fees around 2% max) but is governmentally encouraged too. In some regions, sites larger than 5 acres require permits although this is generally not commonplace. The Central Bank of Barbados must grant permission too, though this is just a procedure to be followed and nothing more.
Caribbean Property Hot-spots
Whilst numerous Caribbean destinations like St Lucia and Trinidad, Tobago, Barbados and Bermuda spring to mind, property investment is rewarding right across the board. Widely varying directives can apply to the purchase process from island to island though generally, none are restrictive.
